Why replace your lead pipe?
Lead pipework was commonly used to connect homes to the water main until the 1970s. Over time it corrodes and can leach lead into your drinking water, which is now recognised as a serious health risk - particularly for children and pregnant women.
Replacing your lead supply pipe with modern blue MDPE pipe removes that risk entirely, typically improves water pressure and flow rate, and futureproofs your property for decades to come.
Usually the internal bore size of lead pipe is a lot smaller than 25mm MDPE and over time the lead pipe furs up internally reducing the bore even further reducing the flow even more. Increasing the bore size of your supply pipe gives you the best chance of increasing the flow to your property.
Eventually lead pipes leak and can cause major disruption and unseen damage, leaks can remain hidden for a long period of time progressively increasing until water becomes visible or the noise of the leak can be heard. Once a leak on a lead pipe has been repaired its usually only a matter of time before a second leak arises so we always recommend a full supply pipe replacement.
United Utilities offer a Lead Replacement Scheme which includes a £550 contribution grant towards the cost of the installation and we can help you with the application if required.

Where possible we use impact moling to install the new MDPE with minimal disruption to gardens and driveways. We then reinstate everything to as before we arrived.

Certificate Issued and Waterboard Connection.
Once installation is complete we will issue the required WIAPS certificate and await the connection of your new pipe by United Utilities.

Internal Connection and Completion.
Once UU have connected your new pipe to the watermain on the pavement or in the road we will return and connect your new pipe internally finishing the job.
